Hi, I am the parent rep on a fairly newly formed Cumbria speech, language and communication working group, which reports directly back to Cumbria Children's Trust Board.
We really need your feedback about the attached "starter for 10" of things which should make for a good speech. language and communication service right across Cumbria.
I know it is far from complete or perfect and so we really need your views about what needs changed, altered, added or deleted from the attached list.
Please let me know what you think by emailing me on jennyherd@1voice.info by Monday 12th July.   And please feel free to pass the attached draft to any other parents of kids with speech and language needs who you know but who may not see this board.  Thanks a lot
Jenny Herd, mother of 12 year old boy who uses alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) in mainstream secondary school

Hi everyone
attached is the list of activities on at Sandgate school during the School half term next week......june1,2,3,4 2010

The Kendal Family Drop-In Centre, Sandgate school, Oak Lea Trust and Kendal West Sure Start Children,s Centre are trying to work together to provide family activities.  We also have to try to ensure that the activities will be regular therefore money is an issue.

We want you to come to the family activities.  If you will not be coming it would be useful to know why.  This will be feedback for us and I would be happy for you to be as truthful as possible.

Oak Lea trust are providing three staff for you to come and meet with a view to using their short break support service for families with a child with additional needs and children aged 8 to 14 years of age and 14 to 19 years.  They can also explain about their sitting service for the 0 to 8 age range.

Barnardos and Cumbria County Council will be providing some funding but we would ask if you are able to give a donation to help us continue during the future school holidays we would be very grateful.

The June half term is a trial for us and I would hope to run something similar for the first four weeks of the school summer holidays, the October half term, January ( after the excitement of Christmas!) and February half term∑∑∑aiming to run this on a regular annual basis.

We would really love to see you at some time during the June school holidays even if it is just a quick call to have a coffee.

Warm wishes∑∑∑

Shirley

Transition / ‘Planning Your Future’ – Trans...

Dear Parent/Guardian,
'Planning Your Future' – Transition Event

I am writing to invite you to the "Planning Your Future" event on the evening of Wednesday the 26th of May at Sandgate
School, Kendal.

As you will know, there are potentially many barriers facing young people with additional needs or disabilities when it
comes to making decisions about their own future. This event is being held to increase awareness of the options
available.  Local and regional providers of education, supported employment, day services and others will be present to
give information about their activities, both by having stalls and by giving short talks. The event will run from 4:00pm to
8.00 pm, with light refreshments available.

I hope you will be able to attend. It would help our planning if you could confirm your attendance by completing the
attached reply slip and returning it for my attention to the school or via e-mail. It would also assist us if you could roughly
indicate what time you planned to attend. Please feel free to contact me if you would like further information.

I hope to see you on the 26th of May!

Yours Sincerely
