Flookburgh is a small coastal working village on the Cartmel Peninsula a short distance away from Grange-over-Sands and Cartmel village, home to the racecourse, the beautiful Priory, a number of pubs and restaurants and of course the Village Shop famous for its Sticky Toffee Pudding.
Flookburgh has two pubs, a village shop, chemist, excellent butchers shop, post office, fish and chip shop and church. There are two more pubs within ten minutes walking distance at the next village of Cark-in-Cartmel, one of which has a WiFi internet hotspot (if you need to work). Also here you will find the west coast railway station and grocery shop. Holker Hall and Gardens is just five minutes away. There are many footpaths, bridleways and country lanes to explore and down the road is the wonderful expanse of Morecambe Bay. The village is also the scene of the annual Cumbria Steam Gathering in July.
Flookburgh is an ideal location for exploring The Lakes, and with the Cumbria Coastal Path right on your doorstep, walking, riding, cycling, bird watching, skydiving etc. are all readily available. Lake Windermere and Coniston Water are only 20 minutes away by car. Coniston is quieter, a good place for just messing about by the lake, but with all the facilities for boat hire, tea shops, restaurants and pubs. Bowness-on-Windermere is much larger and livelier and has cruise boats and a greater number of restaurants and shops.
Kendal is a major shopping centre and place of interest with supermarkets, many nice restaurants, arts centre, cinema and leisure centre with swimming pool. It is only a 20 minute drive away. Ulverston is 15/20 minutes away by car and has Market days Thursday and Saturday. Here you will find a theatre (Coronation Hall) and many welcoming pubs, cafes and restaurants.
There are many places to visit… Dalton Wild Animal Park, Aquarium of the Lakes (Windermere), Laurel and Hardy Museum (Ulverston), Haverthwaite Steam Railway, Coniston and Windermere Lake Cruises, 13th Century Furness Abbey, Dock Museum (both in Barrow), Holker Hall and Gardens (including Donald Campbell Bluebird Exhibition), Beatrix Potter Museum (Ambleside), Cartmel Priory and many many more….
