What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a recognised hands-on therapy designed
to diagnose and treat pain and disability. It uses many of the
diagnostic procedures used in conventional medicine but does not
involve prescribing drugs.

What is naturopathy?
Naturopathic medicine looks at the person as a whole
and is based on the concept of helping the body to help itself
to restore health and natural function. It uses diet, exercise,
postural advice, hydrotherapy (water treatment) and relaxation
techniques to do this and is here combined with osteopathy.

see also The
General Council & Register of Naturopath's Site
Who can be treated?
Both osteopathy and naturopathy can help all age ranges
including babies and young children as well as expectant mothers,
the elderly and those recovering from illness or injuries.
What can they treat?
Low back pain and 'sciatica', whiplash, arthritis and
other joint problems such as sprains, frozen shoulder and tennis
elbow, sports injury, repetitive strain injury and postural stiffness.
In addition, other disorders such as digestive problems, candida
(thrush), migraine and tension headaches, eczema, psoriasis, asthma,
osteoporosis, insomnia and period pain can all benefit from osteopathic
treatment.
Occasionally there is the need for outside information from your
GP such as blood tests or x-ray results to allow a full diagnosis
to be made. However, these are not requested without your prior
written consent. Treatment will vary to suit the individual but
will normally involve deep massage techniques and painless mobilisation
of the joints to increase their range of movement as well as dietary,
exercise and postural advice to improve the effectiveness of the
treatment and prevent reoccurance.
If you require a total Cranial treatment or would prefer
a non cranial approach, please feel free to ask
What will the treatment involve?
A full case history will be taken to get a complete
picture of your health and lifestyle. You will be asked to remove
some of your clothing to enable a full examination of the relevant
area. You will then be asked to perform a series of simple movements
which, along with gentle palpation will help make the diagnosis
and cause of the pain.

What is Naturopathy or naturopathic Medicine?
(the following is extracted from the GCRN website)
"Naturopathic Medicine is the field of health
care which works with the body's own efforts to allow optimum
expression of
physiological, mental/emotional, and physical health, given the
individual's genetic make up and environment"
Naturopathy is an approach to health care that promotes
and maintains health. It recognizes that there are laws governing
human function and our natural environment;
Every living thing has a vitality, this is known as
the principle of vitalism.
There is a healing power in nature. The body heals itself because
of its innate vitality. Medicines act only to stimulate the innate
healing power of the body.
There is an invariable connection between the structural, biochemical
and mental/emotional elements of all living
beings. This is known as the triad of health.
There is an interaction of the whole person; dysfunction in one
part of the body inevitably leads to dysfunction
elsewhere, just as dysfunction in one part of the Naturopathic
triad means all parts of the triad will be affected.
People are genetically, biochemically, structurally and emotionally
different from one another: they are individuals.
We interact with our environment; health is a reflection of a
harmonious interaction.
There is an important difference between acute and chronic disease.
Acute diseases are the result of the
expression of the body's homoeostatic mechanisms attempting to
re-establish balance. For example a high fever is
produced to combat infection in order to aid the immunological
defense mechanisms.
All disease starts with a disruption to the body's homoeostatic
mechanisms; health is a return to balance of these
mechanisms.
Health is more than the absence of disease; health is when all
aspects of an individual's biochemical,
mental/emotional and physical being are in balance.
The human body has adapted to its environment over millions of
years, it has come to expect certain foods for its
fuel, clean water, a certain amount of fresh air and sunlight,
and a certain amount of exercise and rest/relaxation.
Naturopathic medicine is the application of these laws
in a clinical setting to maintain, improve or establish health
in
patients. It is therefore not a technique but an approach to health
care.
The defining elements of Naturopathy are:
1. That it always seeks to work with the body's own
self-correcting mechanisms, or efforts to maintain homoeostasis.
2. That it always attempts to address all three aspects of the
naturopathic triad.
3. That it regards education of the patient as highly as treatment
of the patient.
4.That it always seeks to address lifestyle factors that are contributing
to the problem and re-educate the patient into
a lifestyle more conducive to health.
