General Information & Discussion / lost password?
Last post by admin - March 09, 2010, 06:17:05 PM
we don't have access to anyone's passwords for security, so if you can't remember it, then you will have to register with a new name, and, if you are using the same email address, then you will have to tell me so that i can delete your original nickname, as multiple nicknames with the same email are not allowed..

thx

General Information & Discussion / play chess here!
Last post by admin - February 28, 2010, 07:05:29 PM
new chess section for registered members http://www.soul-trade.com/scouts/index.php?action=chess

link added to front page top left hand links block

i have introduced a chess game that can be played between beavers cubs scouts & parents - tested in firefox ok
(but not as good in safari unfortunately...(where the page needs refreshing after a move)

it's pretty nifty! you can challenge any registered members of the site, and leave games to resume later -- or put yourself up for a game which others can join..

let me know how u get on - there have been a few bugs with rating system and 'dark chess', but overall it seems great and there is realtime moves and chat too!!!

let me know how you get on!

screenshots below are from another site we run but gives you an idea

General Information & Discussion / Hiring South Lakeland Scout Ba...

1st Grange & Cartmel Scout Group

South Lakeland Scout Base

Accommodation

South Lakeland Scout Base is the headquarters of the 1st Grange and Cartmel Scout Group. It provides simple indoor accommodation for groups of up to 40, with up to five tents allowed near to the building.

Please note that we do not have a camp-site as such and have no rights over the surrounding area, which is part of Cartmel Park - owned by the Holker Estate and permanently open to the public.

The main room (11m x 9m) has a large open fireplace, four Calor gas heaters, chairs and tables.  The hall can be divided with a little ingenuity; many groups bring and use the inners from lightweight tents to create 'bedrooms'.  No beds or bedding are provided.

There is a separate carpeted leaders' room (2.9m x 2.7m) with an electric heater and a couple of camp beds and some inflatable mattresses.

There is an indoor W.C. with hand-basin and an adjacent toilet block available in the non-winter months.

There is a separate well-fitted kitchen (4m x 2.2m) which has two Calor gas cookers, microwave, large refrigerator (with a small freezer compartment), double sink with electric water heater, worktops, cooking utensils, pans, crockery and cutlery.

Location

The Base is delightfully situated in a secluded position on the edge of the historic village of Cartmel, and is surrounded by parkland and woods, suitable for many activities.  The park also contains the famous Cartmel Racecourse.
The village has a 12th century priory, market square, historic gatehouse, four inns, two cafés, and variety of shops including a Spar shop and the famous Sticky Toffee Pudding shop.
There are many interesting places to visit, several within walking distance:  Holker Hall (home of Lord Cavendish) with its gardens, and deer park; the limestone promontory of Humphrey Head; and Hampsfell with its panoramic view of the Lakeland Hills and Morecambe Bay from the top of its unique tower called 'The Hospice'.

Three miles from Cartmel, Grange-over-Sands has good recreational facilities including tennis, putting, and bowls, and a wide variety of shopping experiences.
Many of the Lake District fells and lakes are within easy reach and the southern end of Windermere (lake) is only six miles away near Newby Bridge, with a Country Park for rowing and lake swimming, and a steam railway.

Directions

Road: Leave the M6 at Junction 36 and follow the A590 signed to Barrow.  After approx 9 miles, keep to the A590 at Meathop roundabout.  Continue along the dual carriageway for approximately 2 miles to the Cartmel Lane Interchange and turn left by the road signed to Cartmel (3 miles).
On entering the village, turn right at the Pig and Whistle [the Spar Shop is just before the turning] and right again at the T junction.  Follow the road through the Village Square to the far end aiming to the left of the phone box out-side the Sticky Toffee Pudding shop.
Drive into the Car Park and go through the white metal barrier on the right and proceed alongside the car park.  Bear left along the unsurfaced track and Stop before you reach the grass outside the Base. (GR SD 376786)
You may unload from here but not take vehicles onto the grass.  After unloading all vehicles need to be moved to the agreed parking place [P].
Rail: Cark (2 miles) and Grange-over-Sands (3 miles) with direct services from Preston and Manchester.  There is a direct path from Cark if you wish to walk to the Base.

Charges (as at January 2008)

Site fee £4.50 per person per night.
This includes gas and electricity.

Additional charges:
A small extra charge is made for logs.

Use of tents (up to a maximum of 5) must be notified in advance.
We charge (on behalf of the racecourse) an additional £ 3.00 per tent per night.
Any use of tents must be notified to the Booking Secretary in advance.
If you intend to use more than 5 tents you and we would need prior permission from the Racecourse Manager.

A deposit of £10.00 per night is payable on booking and the balance within a week after your departure.
Cheques should be made payable to: 1st Grange and Cartmel Scout Group

Cartmel 3 Peaks Outing (C3PO) is a day of challenge walks, ranging from 5 to 20 miles.  The longest distance will take walkers (and runners) to the 3 'Peaks' of Howbarrow, Hampsfell and Humphrey Head.  We hope to attract competitors from far and near.  More details nearer the time.

General Information & Discussion / Accessibility
Last post by admin - February 15, 2010, 11:16:20 AM
The content texts of this website have a relative font size, which means that they can be resized according to your needs.

To edit the size of the text

With various navigators :
   Ctrl + mouse wheel
Internet Explorer :
View >> Text size and pick your size
Mozilla, Firefox or Netscape :
Ctrl & + to increase and Ctrl & - to decrease the font size
Opera :
press + or - . Or go to View >> Zoom and choose your size

having looked at and tested some access key solutions, under w3c, there remains i think a clash with browser tab choice, so i have not implemented all access keys, but if you need an improved approach here please contact us at jol@soul-trade.com

also you can change colour /look and layout of the site by going to Profile (top menu) choose look & layout - and then choose a different theme - but remember some features may not be available in other themes - best is this default theme!

mobile wap2 access is auto but to see how it looks try http://www.soul-trade.com/scouts/index.php?wap2
