Purpose of the fund
To improve access for children with severe disabilities to local community based social, leisure and sports clubs and events so as to increase short break provision for children and families.
The intention is that children should be supported to be as independent as possible as well as allowing carers and siblings to have a break.

Applications
should be received through the website by 27 November for decisions in mid December. All grants in this round must be spent by 31 March 2010, although activities that are being continued through the Easter holidays may be funded. It may be possible to give an earlier decision for amounts of ?1,000 for Christmas holiday activities.

Dear all,

During the locality stakeholder meetings in September and early November a number of parents expressed interest in being involved in a Short Breaks tender panel, therefore we have arranged a parent training session in the morning of the 25th November at the Roundthorn Hotel, Penrith from 10 am ? 12 noon followed by lunch.  We have 20 places booked, so can accommodate 4 parents from each locality.  As mentioned at the events we aim to have one parent/carer from each locality on the tender panel and 4 Local Authority officers, representing the full 0-19 age range and a range of disabilities.  We cannot have a panel with parents/carers representing one age range across one or two localities and one disability, so that we can make fair and consensual decisions based on needs not on individual children in specific localities.
